Queens, New York
2019
This apartment building was built in 1922 and is one of the original coop buildings in the USA. The apartment buildings are arranged at the perimeter of the block creating an interior garden space in the center. The renovation consists of a new kitchen and bathrooms with contemporary elements incorporated throughout the apartment. The modern design spills into the more traditional areas thru a window between the Kitchen and the Dining Room. Recessed lighting was used in the Living/Dining area, artisan plaster was applied to the fireplace wall and radiators were exposed, creating a more functional aesthetic. Existing enhanced items include wood floors, wood trim throughout, movable transoms above doors, french doors, door hardware, etc. Materials and colors were used to transition between traditional and contemporary.
