Bronx, New York
2012
The new townhouse is located in Westchester Square in the Bronx. The site is a typical 25 x 100 city lot. This is a diverse area with a mixture of detached, semi-detached, attached and multi-family buildings. The idea for this house is generated from the scale and proportion of the particular block. The existing street facade consists of volumes that vary in width from 20, 18, 14 to 12 feet. The new 25 foot wide townhouse is split in the middle in order to look like two houses that are attached, therefore responding to the existing urban fabric. It is also articulated horizontally to break down the overall height. The house is split in the interior as well with two halves in each apartment.
